Toric varieties and spherical embeddings over an arbitrary field
We are interested in two classes of varieties with group action, namely toric
varieties and spherical embeddings. They are classified by combinatorial
objects, called fans in the toric setting, and colored fans in the spherical
setting. We characterize those combinatorial objects corresponding to varieties
defined over an arbitrary field . Then we provide some situations where
toric varieties over are classified by Galois-stable fans, and spherical
embeddings over by Galois-stable colored fans. Moreover, we construct an
example of a smooth toric variety under a 3-dimensional nonsplit torus over
whose fan is Galois-stable but which admits no -form. In the spherical
setting, we offer an example of a spherical homogeneous space over \mr
of rank 2 under the action of SU(2,1) and a smooth embedding of whose fan
is Galois-stable but which admits no \mr-form
Compactification d'espaces homogènes sphériques sur un corps quelconque
This thesis is devoted to the study of embeddings of spherical homogeneous spaces over an arbitrary field. In the first part, we address the classification of such embeddings, in the spirit of Demazure and many others in the setting of toric varieties and of Luna, Vust and Knop in the setting of spherical varieties. In the second part, we generalize in positive characteristics some results obtained by Bien and Brion on those complete smooth embeddings that are log homogeneous, i.e., whose boundary is a normal crossing divisor and the associated logarithmic tangent bundle is generated by its global sections. In the last part, we construct an explicit smooth log homogeneous compactification of the general linear group by successive blow-ups (different from the one obtained by Kausz). By taking fixed points of certain automorphisms on this compactification, one gets smooth log homogeneous compactifications of some classical semi-simple groups.

Special Reductive Groups Over An Arbitrary Field
A linear algebraic group G defined over a field k is called special if every G-torsor over every field extension of k is trivial. In 1958 Grothendieck classified special groups in the case where the base field is algebraically closed. In this paper we describe the derived subgroup and the coradical of a special reductive group over an arbitrary field k. We also classify special semisimple groups, special reductive groups of inner type, and special quasisplit reductive groups over an arbitrary field k. Finally, we give an application to a conjecture of Serre

Orders that are étale-locally isomorphic
Let R be a semilocal Dedekind domain with fraction field F. It is shown that two hereditary R-orders in central simple F-algebras that become isomorphic after tensoring with F and with some faithfully flat étale R-algebra are isomorphic. On the other hand, this fails for hereditary orders with involution. The latter stands in contrast to a result of the first two authors, who proved this statement for Hermitian forms over hereditary R-orders with involution. The results can be restated by means of étale cohomology and can be viewed as variations of the Grothendieck–Serre conjecture on principal homogeneous spaces of reductive group schemes. The relationship with Bruhat–Tits theory is also discussed
